GPL Match #40 Singapore Trumps the Assassins

After the unorthodox plays made by the Singapore Sentinels in their last match against the Taipei Assassins, everyone was wondering what would appear this time as both teams met again. In a move that was completely surprising, Stanley picked up Akali as the top lane champion for TPA while Tofu went with Dr. Mundo.

The match fired up very early with TPA grabbing the firstblood on d4rkness while SGS was stealing the wraith camp. TPA then pulled the same strategy SGS used two weeks ago, sending Graves and Soraka to the top lane against Dr. Mundo. The strategy, however, backfired when Lilballz made a gank attempt at the bottom lane and found himself the prey instead. Chawy grabbed the kill on both him and Stanley, taking the double buff. With both buffs, Chawy was able to completely prevent Stanley from farming, while at the top lane Tofu was still able to hold his own.

Seeing Stanley losing ground at bot, TPA made a move to take down the top turret with a 3-man push but while they did take the turret SGS secured a free dragon. Throughout the early game, HarLeLuYar pulled off multiple ganks successfully, securing a strong lead for SGS right from the start. On top these ganks, SGS pulled ahead thanks to their impeccable dragon control.

The key turning point of the match came when SGS made their push for the middle lane. Stanley overextended himself and found himself caught by Equivocal’s oracle. With one member of TPA down, HarLeLuYar made an extremely brilliant play, diving in with his unstoppable force to grab 3 members of TPA. SGS scored four kills from the engagement and took baron giving them a huge ten thousand gold lead against TPA.

As SGS continued their aggression, TPA made numerous attempts to defend but each time the combination of HarLeLuYar’s unstoppable force and d4rkness’s explosive cask tore TPA apart. Unable to deal with the combo of Malphite and Gragas, TPA soon found themselves backed against a wall with no way of stopping SGS from taking a second baron, uncontested. At that point SGS had grown much too strong and their final push was a steamroll that ended the greatest match of the GPL to date.

Key Plays:

• Lilballz fails an early gank and gives Chawy the double buff which allows him to zone out Stanley completely
• SGS secures every single dragon of the game
• Stanley gets caught out of position and his Twilight Shroud is nullified by an oracles leading to an unofficial ace and SGS taking baron
